Ledger Live — Secure Crypto Wallet & Portfolio Manager

A polished single-page demo: features, security guidance, portfolio snapshot and an interactive (safe) transaction simulator.

What is Ledger Live?

A desktop & mobile companion app for hardware wallets
Trusted by millions • Zero custody keys
Ledger Live is the official companion application for Ledger hardware wallets. It provides a secure, user-friendly interface to manage crypto assets, check balances, send and receive transactions, and track a portfolio across multiple blockchains. It is designed so private keys never leave your Ledger device — transactions are built in the app and signed on the hardware device, keeping custody with you.

Core capabilities

  • Secure transactions— transaction signing happens on-device so private keys are never exposed.
  • Multi-asset portfolio— view balances for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and many tokens in one place.
  • App manager— install blockchain apps on your Ledger device safely from within the app.
  • Staking & integrations— delegate assets to validators (where supported) and use DeFi through integrations.
  • Backup & restore— recover access with your 24-word recovery phrase if the device is lost or replaced.

Best practices you should know
  1. Always verify the address on your Ledger device screen before confirming a transaction.
  2. Never share your 24-word recovery phrase. Ledger or any legitimate service will never ask for it.
  3. Keep firmware and Ledger Live updated; official updates patch security issues and add features.
  4. Use a strong OS password and enable device-level encryption on mobile or desktop.

How Ledger Live works — quick walkthrough

From device pairing to sending your first transaction.

  1. Install Ledger Live: download the official app from Ledger’s website and install on your desktop or mobile device.
  2. Set up your Ledger device: create a new wallet on the device by following the guided flow. You will be shown a 24-word recovery phrase — write it down and store it offline.
  3. Pair with Ledger Live: connect the device, open Ledger Live, and follow the on-screen pairing instructions. Ledger Live will detect installed apps and supported blockchains.
  4. Install blockchain apps: to manage a specific chain (e.g., Ethereum), install the corresponding app on your Ledger hardware using Ledger Live’s App Manager.
  5. Manage accounts: add accounts for each blockchain to view balances and receive/send tokens. Ledger Live fetches account data from the network while keys remain on-device.
  6. Send and receive: create transactions in Ledger Live and confirm the final transaction payload on your Ledger device’s screen before signing.
Note: While Ledger Live helps with many operations, third-party integrations (DeFi, dApps, or third-party wallets) may be necessary for advanced features. Always confirm integrations on the device.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ledger Live free?
Yes — Ledger Live is free to download and use. Network fees still apply when broadcasting transactions to blockchains.
What happens if I lose my Ledger device?
You can restore your accounts on a new Ledger device (or compatible wallet) using your 24-word recovery phrase. Protect the phrase — anyone with it can access your funds.
Can Ledger Live hold custody of my keys?
No. Ledger Live is a non-custodial interface. Private keys are stored and used on the Ledger device only.
